About Lahnstein (Koblenz)
Lahnstein has about 18,400 residents and sits at 74 metres where the Lahn flows into the Rhine. It has three districts: Oberlahnstein, Niederlahnstein and Friedrichssegen. The old Salhof square, with a Frankish royal court first mentioned in 977, has a witch tower and a fountain. Lahneck castle, built in 1226, stands on a rock above the confluence, and the Martinsschloss, a toll castle, dates from 1298. The Rhine and Lahn cycle routes both pass through. Our homes sit together at one spot. Nearly all have a pool, they are mostly small, for two people, with one bedroom, and none has a sauna or a garden listed. This is a town with railway lines, not a quiet vineyard hamlet.

Is Lahnstein close to Koblenz?
Yes, about 8 km. An hourly bus takes around 24 minutes, and the Rhine trains also serve the town, so you can reach Koblenz without a car.
Can you cycle from Lahnstein?
Yes. The Rhine cycle route and the Lahn valley route both pass through. The Lahn route runs about 15 km one way to Bad Ems, and a footpath and cycle route follows the Rhine to the Marksburg at Braubach.
Is there a ferry across the Rhine at Lahnstein?
No. The ferry between Ober- and Niederlahnstein and Koblenz-Stolzenfels has been discontinued since autumn 2010. The nearest crossings are the Koblenz bridge downstream and the Boppard ferry upstream.
Which castles are at Lahnstein?
Lahneck, built in 1226 on a rock above the confluence, the Martinsschloss toll castle of 1298, and Burg Lahnstein, built 1240 to 1245. Parts of Burg Lahnstein open from 1 April to 1 November.
How far is Lahnstein from Frankfurt airport?
About 1 hour 12 minutes by road. The train via Koblenz Hauptbahnhof takes around 1 hour 52 minutes, so a car saves time but is not essential.
