Lahnstein is a town where the Lahn meets the Rhine, about 8 km from Koblenz, and nearly every home here has a pool. There is no ferry across the Rhine from here.
Lahnstein has about 18,400 residents and sits at 74 metres where the Lahn flows into the Rhine. It has three districts: Oberlahnstein, Niederlahnstein and Friedrichssegen. The old Salhof square, with a Frankish royal court first mentioned in 977, has a witch tower and a fountain. Lahneck castle, built in 1226, stands on a rock above the confluence, and the Martinsschloss, a toll castle, dates from 1298. The Rhine and Lahn cycle routes both pass through. Our homes sit together at one spot. Nearly all have a pool, they are mostly small, for two people, with one bedroom, and none has a sauna or a garden listed. This is a town with railway lines, not a quiet vineyard hamlet.
About 8 km away; an hourly bus takes around 24 minutes, and Rhine trains also run to Koblenz.
A 13th-century castle on a steep rock above the Lahn and Rhine, opposite Stolzenfels.
At Braubach, reached from Oberlahnstein by a quiet footpath and cycle route along the Rhine.
About 15 km one way along the Lahn cycle route, for a day on the river.
Built 1240 to 1245 above the Lahn and rebuilt in English neo-Gothic style from 1852.
Frankfurt Airport is about 1 hour 12 minutes by road, or about 1 hour 52 minutes by train via Koblenz. Regional trains on the Rheingau line (RB 10) call at Lahnstein between Koblenz, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt, so a car is optional here.
Parts of Burg Lahnstein are open to visitors from 1 April to 1 November, which makes that window the main sightseeing season. The Rhine and Lahn cycle routes pass through town. Check opening details for Lahneck and Marksburg before you go, since this page does not confirm their hours.
Yes, about 8 km. An hourly bus takes around 24 minutes, and the Rhine trains also serve the town, so you can reach Koblenz without a car.
