About Castellammare del Golfo

Castellammare del Golfo is a harbour town of about 15,000 people on the Tyrrhenian coast in the province of Trapani, about 35 km from Trapani itself. A castle built by the Arabs and enlarged by the Normans sits on a rocky outcrop by the sea, and the marina, Cala Marina, has many restaurants and bars, with boat trips to the Egadi Islands. East of town the gulf has about 30 km of white sandy beaches. West of it lie Scopello, with its tonnara, a traditional tuna fishing ground, and the Zingaro reserve, whose bay beaches are reached only on foot or by boat. The homes are spread over several kilometres, some by the town and some in the countryside, and many are family-sized. The town is a good place for off-season visits.
