Cefalù suits couples and small families after a medieval seaside town on Sicily's north coast, with a Norman cathedral. Most homes here are small and have air conditioning, but few have a pool.
Cefalù is a Tyrrhenian-coast town of just under 14,000 people, about 70 km east of Palermo. Above it stands a rock roughly 270 metres high, topped by the Temple of Diana, and the medieval street plan below is still in place. The cathedral was commissioned by Roger II, and has a Byzantine Christ Pantocrator mosaic on a gold ground. The harbour is lit at night, and an illuminated path runs along the cliffs. Evenings are spent on those streets rather than in any nightlife district. The homes are scattered around Cefalù over several kilometres, not just in the old town. Most are small, made for about two to four people, nearly all have air conditioning, and a pool is the exception. So the seaside and the old town are best treated as a short drive or walk from the front door.

Sicily's capital, about 70 km west and roughly an hour on the A20.
Palermo is the airport, around 1 hour 15 minutes by car. Trains take roughly 2 hours 30 minutes with a change at Palermo Centrale, so hire a car if the homes are outside the old town.
The bathing season is May to October, with beaches less crowded outside the peak months. Winters are short, and what rain there is falls mostly in the winter months. Spring and autumn suit touring villages, which suits a town built around its old streets.

Few do. Most of the homes listed around Cefalù are small, built for around two to four people, and fewer than one in five has a pool. Air conditioning is nearly universal.
