About Cefalù
Cefalù is a Tyrrhenian-coast town of just under 14,000 people, about 70 km east of Palermo. Above it stands a rock roughly 270 metres high, topped by the Temple of Diana, and the medieval street plan below is still in place. The cathedral was commissioned by Roger II, and has a Byzantine Christ Pantocrator mosaic on a gold ground. The harbour is lit at night, and an illuminated path runs along the cliffs. Evenings are spent on those streets rather than in any nightlife district. The homes are scattered around Cefalù over several kilometres, not just in the old town. Most are small, made for about two to four people, nearly all have air conditioning, and a pool is the exception. So the seaside and the old town are best treated as a short drive or walk from the front door.

Is Cefalù worth staying in for a villa holiday?
Yes, if you want a walkable medieval town with a Norman cathedral and a harbour. The homes are mostly small and many lie outside the old centre, so check where a house sits before booking.
How far is Cefalù from Palermo airport?
About 1 hour 15 minutes by car. The train route needs a change at Palermo Centrale and takes roughly 2 hours 30 minutes, so most villa guests drive.
Do Cefalù villas have private pools?
Few do. Most of the homes listed around Cefalù are small, built for around two to four people, and fewer than one in five has a pool. Air conditioning is nearly universal.
What is the best time to swim at Cefalù?
The bathing season runs from May to October. Beaches are less crowded outside the peak summer months, so late spring and early autumn are calmer.
What is there to see in Cefalù old town?
The cathedral with its Byzantine mosaic, the old washhouse where the Cefalino river runs out of 22 cast-iron spouts, and the Museo Mandralisca. The rock above the town carries the Temple of Diana.
