About Grächen
Grächen is a village of about 1,250 people at 1,620 metres, on a terrace above St. Niklaus, north of the Mischabel range. The village centre is car-free, and our homes are packed tightly around it. The Hannigalp cable car, with its Fairy Tale Gondolas, gives access to the ski area, which has about 40 km of slopes and 11 lifts. There is a natural ice rink, toboggan runs and fondue in a gondola. In summer the focus shifts to bisse walks along irrigation channels, the Magic Water Trail with play islands and Robi's Forest Playground, which has a zipline and a petting zoo. The village is German-speaking and small, so evenings are quiet.

Yes. The village centre is car-free, and there is a dedicated children's offer: Robi's Forest Playground with a zipline and petting zoo, the Fairy Tale Gondolas on the Hannigalp, and the Zappelpfad trail with a game backpack.
Can you walk from Grächen to Zermatt?
Yes, on the Europaweg, a 40 km route through the Mattertal and its 29 four-thousand-metre peaks, over the Charles Kuonen bridge to the Europa Hut. You can shorten it using the postbus and train.
Is Grächen car-free?
The village centre is car-free, according to Switzerland Tourism. Check where each home sits relative to the centre, and where to park, when you book.
Grächen or Zermatt for a ski holiday?
Zermatt is much bigger, with a ski area that reaches the Klein Matterhorn at 3,883 metres and links to Italy. Grächen has about 40 km of slopes between 1,619 and 2,864 metres, and suits a quieter, family-led week.
Where is the suspension bridge near Grächen?
The Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge is near Randa on the Europaweg, not in Grächen itself. It is 494 metres long and hangs up to 85 metres above the ravine, so allow a full hiking day.
