Sörenberg suits families after modest skiing and moorland walks, with a cable car up the 2,350 m Brienzer Rothorn. The listed ski season runs only from 19 December to 29 March, and no home here has a pool.
Sörenberg is a village at about 1,160 m in the Entlebuch UNESCO biosphere, within the municipality of Flühli. Peaks above 2,000 m surround it: the Brienzer Rothorn to the south and the karst Schrattenfluh to the west. Moorland is the local speciality: nowhere else in Switzerland has so much protected moor in so small an area, and there is a Moorland Trail and the Mooraculum nature experience. The ski area has 43 km of pistes over 24 runs, plus 42 km of cross-country trails, and the Rossweid cable car and the Brienzer Rothorn aerial tramway both leave from Sörenberg. Our homes are clustered in and around Sörenberg. Most have a garden, many have a fireplace, and a few have a sauna.
At 2,350 m the highest mountain in canton Lucerne; a year-round cable car from Sörenberg reaches the summit, where there is a restaurant.
Lake Brienz boat stop and the start of the Brienz Rothorn Railway, a steam train that climbs to the same summit from the other side.
In Obwalden, reached by the Glaubenbielen Pass, which runs east from Sörenberg.
In Escholzmatt-Marbach, home to the Marbach Alpine Dairy Experience.
Zurich airport is the practical choice, about an hour and a half by road. By train it takes around three and a half hours via Lucerne, Wolhusen and Schüpfheim, with a final bus, so most guests will want a car.
The ski season is listed as 19 December 2026 to 29 March 2027, with lifts running from 08:30 to 16:10. Cross-country trails and floodlit sections of the toboggan runs share that winter. In summer the Rothorn cable car keeps running, and hiking, mountain biking and the Moorland Trail take over from skiing.
Modest. The Switzerland Tourism snow report lists 43 km of pistes over 24 runs, served by the Rossweid cable car and the Brienzer Rothorn aerial tramway, with a 4 km black descent from the Rothorn.
