Bürglen OW suits walkers and families wanting a quiet shore at the north end of Lake Lungern, between Lucerne and Interlaken. It is a settlement inside Lungern, not a resort, so the village of Lungern is the nearer centre.
Bürglen is a settlement in Lungern municipality, canton Obwalden, at the northern end of Lake Lungern, a natural lake about 2 km long and 68 m deep. From 1836 its level was lowered by 36 m through a drainage tunnel. The village of Lungern sits on the eastern shore at the foot of the Brünig Pass, and the Brünig railway between Lucerne and Interlaken runs through the municipality. Homes are spread over a few kilometres around the lake end, all with a garden, and typically sleep around five. There is no resort strip, and evenings are quiet. In winter the area offers family-friendly skiing.
The village on the lake's eastern shore at the foot of the Brünig Pass, with its own railway station.
Lungern lies on the Brünig Pass halfway between the two, and the Brünig line links them.
Home to the Fruttpark and Fruttli-Land, two attractions for families in this holiday region.
The geographical centre of Switzerland, found in the municipality of Sachseln.
Zurich Airport is the practical gateway: about 1 hour 10 minutes by road, or around 2 hours 40 minutes by train, changing at Lucerne. The Brünig line also stops at Kaiserstuhl OW, at the north end of the lake. A car helps for homes spread around the lake end.
It is a settlement in the municipality of Lungern in the canton of Obwalden, at the northern end of Lake Lungern. It is not Bürglen in Uri, which lies at the entrance of the Schächental where the Klausen pass road begins.
Yes. The Brünig railway between Lucerne and Interlaken runs through Lungern municipality, with stations at Lungern and Kaiserstuhl OW. That gives a rail link without needing to drive all the way.
Lungern is halfway between Lucerne and Interlaken on the Brünig Pass, so Bürglen is roughly midway as well. The Brünig line connects both cities.
Only in a small way. The area offers family-friendly skiing in winter, so treat this as a lake and walking base with some snow days rather than a big ski holiday.
