About Roses
Roses is a fishing port and resort of about 17,500 people at the northern end of the Gulf of Roses. Our homes sit within a few kilometres of the centre, mostly small houses and apartments for four, and about half have a pool. The Ciutadella, the fortifications Charles V ordered in 1543, has held a museum since 2004. A palm-lined promenade runs along the sea, and the harbour serves both the fishing fleet and a marina. El Bulli, rated the world's best restaurant from 2006 to 2009, operated here until July 2011. The coastal path and the long-distance GR 92 pass through town, and the Cap de Creus and Aiguamolls de l'Empordà natural parks both have walking routes close by. Wind is the main thing to plan around.

Fly to Girona-Costa Brava, which has Ryanair from London Stansted and seasonal Jet2 flights from Bristol, Glasgow and Manchester. The drive to Roses is about 68 km, or around 50 minutes. Buses run from the airport but take over two hours with changes, so a car is worth having for coves and Cap de Creus.

Summer is the crowded season: nearby Empuriabrava has 6,915 residents but around 80,000 people in summer. Outside beach weather, the GR 92 coastal path and the Ciutadella museum give you something to do.
