About Aveiro
Aveiro is a city laced with canals, arms of the Ria de Aveiro estuary that reach in among the houses, and they earn it the nickname Portuguese Venice. Moliceiro boats, once used to harvest moliço seagrass for fertiliser, now carry visitors along them. Only a few salt pans remain of the old salt trade. Many tiled Art Nouveau buildings date from the early 20th century, and the regional sweet is ovos moles. Costa Nova, with its striped wooden palheiros, and Barra, with its lighthouse, are the beaches. Our homes are spread around the city, mostly small, with one or two bedrooms, though a few sleep eight or more. Almost none has a private pool.
