About Valledoria
Valledoria is a low-lying town, 16 m above sea level, facing the Gulf of Asinara near the Coghinas river mouth. It was founded as Codaruina by settlers from Aggius and Tempio Pausania and became its own comune in 1960. The homes are mostly small houses and apartments for around four people, a minority with a pool, spread over a few kilometres around the town and its hamlets of La Ciaccia and La Muddizza. Beaches include San Pietro a Mare, used by windsurfers and kitesurfers, and Baia delle Mimose. Evenings are those of a small town, so for more choice look to Castelsardo, which shares a border, or Sassari. The climate is described as mild and temperate all year, with frequent wind.

Valledoria villa holidays: questions answered
Is Valledoria windy?
Yes, often. Valledoria has a high frequency of days with wind above 12 knots, and the north-westerly mistral (maestrale) is Sardinia's dominant wind. That draws kitesurfers and sailors, so pack a windbreak for beach days.
Can you kitesurf or windsurf in Valledoria?
Both are popular here. San Pietro beach is used for windsurfing and kitesurfing, and a sailing centre run by the non-profit Playa Sardinia has operated since 2007. La Ciaccia is known for wave riding in the maestrale.
Valledoria or Castelsardo?
Castelsardo has the castle and the co-cathedral, at 114 m, while Valledoria sits at 16 m beside the Coghinas river mouth and the beaches. They share a border, so staying in Valledoria still puts you next to Castelsardo's sights.
Which airport for Valledoria?
Alghero or Olbia, and neither is next door. Alghero's only London route is a seasonal Ryanair from Stansted; Olbia has more London options in season. Check seasons before you book.
