Cala Liberotto suits beach-first villa stays on Sardinia's Gulf of Orosei, with a golden-sand bay and pine woods behind the shore. It is windy, and Orosei town is a drive away.
Cala Liberotto is a bay on the central-east coast, more than ten kilometres from the town of Orosei. The sand is coarse and golden, three big rocks sit offshore in shallow water, and the Sos Alinos pond behind the beach is edged with reeds and agaves. Several hundred metres of beach before the headland to Cala Ginepro are lined by dense pine forest. It is often windy, popular with surfers in winter and spearfishers in summer. Our homes spread over several kilometres around the bay, nearly all with a garden and most with a pool and air conditioning. Parking, equipment hire and refreshment spots are on the beach, with restaurants and campsites nearby. For a town, drive to Orosei, whose historic centre has 17 consecrated churches.
A protected coast of five white-sand coves, each roughly a kilometre long, with limited car access from May to October.
Beyond the headland from Liberotto, with soft sand mixed with smooth pebbles and a short swim to the Bidderosa coves.
A beach more than 5 km long on the Orosei coast, taking in the Su Barone stretch.
A town of about 7,000 in the Cedrino valley, with 17 consecrated churches in its historic centre.
Olbia Airport is the practical gateway, about 1 hour 10 minutes by car, while the bus from the airport, with a change at Siniscola, takes nearly three hours. A car is needed: homes are spread along the coast and the best coves are reached by road or on foot.
Summer suits swimming and the beach facilities. Cars into Bidderosa are limited from May to the end of October, while walkers and cyclists have no seasonal limits. Winter is when surfers come, as the cove is often windy. Orosei's Holy Week rites and the May celebrations of Sant'Isidoro and Santa Maria 'e Mare are the main local events.
Yes, with coarse golden sand in an emerald bay, framed by pale rocks. Entry is free, and the beach has parking, equipment rental and refreshment spots, with the Sos Alinos pond behind it.
Often, yes. The cove is regularly windy, which makes it popular with surfers in winter and spearfishers in summer, so it suits active visitors more than anyone who wants flat water every day.
Yes, the Oasi di Bidderosa lies near the Siniscola border, north of Liberotto. Cars and motorbikes are restricted in number from May to the end of October, and you must stop at the Forest Authority headquarters to enter.
More than ten kilometres. It is about 11 km from the town centre and about 14 km from the beach, so a car is needed for town visits.
