About Desenzano
Desenzano del Garda is a town of about 29,000 people at the lake's south-west corner, in Lombardy rather than the Veneto. The old harbour was rebuilt by the Venetians in 1454, and ferries leave from the main port near Piazza Matteotti. A castle of around the year 1000 stands above the centre, and the Roman villa, one of the most important in northern Italy, with mosaic floors, can be visited. The town beach, Desenzanino, is stony rather than sandy, free to enter and close to the centre, with showers, lifeguards and sunbed hire. Our homes are spread over about three kilometres, mostly small ones for around five people, all with air conditioning and about half with a garden. In summer Piazza Malvezzi and Piazza Matteotti are busy in the evening.
