About Mimizan
Mimizan is a town of under 8,000 people in two parts: Mimizan-Bourg, the town centre, and Mimizan-Plage, the resort on the coast. A short river, the Courant de Mimizan, carries water from Lac d'Aureilhan through town to the sea and splits the resort in two. Summer life, with seasonal markets and a pedestrian zone, centres on the north beach; the south beach has cycle paths and trails. The sand runs about 10 km along the Atlantic in named stretches such as Plage des Ailes and Garluche to the north and Lespecier to the south, with surf and bodyboard schools. Evenings run to a beach music bar with live bands and DJs, and a casino. A paper mill is the other big employer, so the town does not live on visitors alone. Our homes are spread over a few kilometres, so check each one's distance to the sea.

per nightMimizan villa holidays: questions answered
Is Mimizan good for a family beach holiday?
Yes, if you want space. The beach runs about 10 km, there are surf and bodyboard schools, and cycle paths and a lake sit just behind the town. It is an Atlantic beach with surf, not a sheltered cove.
Mimizan or Hossegor for a villa?
Both attract surfers, so the choice is mostly about travel. Hossegor is about an hour and a quarter from Mimizan by road, while Biscarrosse is roughly 35 minutes away. Pick Mimizan for a resort town with its own lake and river.
Which airport is best for Mimizan?
Bordeaux and Biarritz are about level. Each is roughly an hour and a half away by road, and Mimizan has no airport of its own. The nearest station is Labouheyre, about 27 km away.
Can you cycle around Mimizan?
Yes. The south beach has cycle paths and walking trails, and bikes can be rented from several shops in town.
What is there to see in Mimizan besides the beach?
The old church bell tower is on UNESCO's list as part of the Santiago de Compostela routes in France. There is also a monument to the Oiseau Canari, which landed on the beach in 1929, and a flower island on the lake.
Do Mimizan holiday homes have pools?
Only a minority do. Most homes are two-bedroom houses and apartments without a private pool, so filter for one if it matters. Otherwise the ocean and Lac d'Aureilhan are the main places to swim.
