About Capbreton
Capbreton has 9,184 residents and sits at the mouth of the Boudigau and Bourret rivers, directly across from Hossegor. The marina has about 1,000 berths, the only ocean-access marina in the Landes, and fishermen sell their catch from tables on the quay. Offshore, a deep underwater canyon, the Gouf de Capbreton, keeps the sea calmer in heavy weather, which gives boats a sheltered way into the port. The eight beaches include Notre-Dame, L'Estacade, La Centrale and Le Prévent, plus a naturist beach at La Pointe. Our homes are tightly grouped, mostly one-bedroom places, with a pool in some. Surfers stay on the beaches outside summer.

Capbreton villa holidays: questions answered
Are the beaches at Capbreton supervised?
In summer, yes. Seven of the eight sandy beaches have supervision from 11:00 to 19:00 in July and August. La Pointe is unsupervised and naturist, so avoid it with children.
Capbreton or Hossegor for a villa stay?
Capbreton is the bigger of the two, with 9,184 residents against 3,817, and it has the marina and quayside fish sales. Hossegor takes its name from a lake and hosts a World Surf League stage.
Can you surf at Capbreton outside summer?
Yes. Capbreton is one of the main surfing centres on the Landes coast, with surfers regularly on the beaches outside the summer season and official competitions several times a year.
What is the Gouf de Capbreton?
An underwater canyon offshore, over 2,100 m deep and about 150 km long. It gives boats a sheltered route into the port because the sea is calmer there in rough weather.
Is there a market in Capbreton?
Yes. There is a market near the Pont de la Halle, which links it to the beach. Check market days locally.
