Capbreton is a Landes surf and boating town with eight sandy beaches and a fishing port, suiting couples and small families. Most homes here sleep four or fewer. It is a resort town with a casino and a marina, not a quiet dune coast.
Capbreton has 9,184 residents and sits at the mouth of the Boudigau and Bourret rivers, directly across from Hossegor. The marina has about 1,000 berths, the only ocean-access marina in the Landes, and fishermen sell their catch from tables on the quay. Offshore, a deep underwater canyon, the Gouf de Capbreton, keeps the sea calmer in heavy weather, which gives boats a sheltered way into the port. The eight beaches include Notre-Dame, L'Estacade, La Centrale and Le Prévent, plus a naturist beach at La Pointe. Our homes are tightly grouped, mostly one-bedroom places, with a pool in some. Surfers stay on the beaches outside summer.
Lake-side surf town directly across from Capbreton, with beach breaks at Gravière and a World Surf League stage.
Surf commune that co-hosts the autumn World Surf League event with Hossegor and Capbreton when conditions allow.
Basque coastal city about 40 km south of Capbreton, and home to Biarritz Airport.
Biarritz Airport is about 30 km away, around 28 minutes by road, and a BlaBlaCar Bus runs to Capbreton-Hossegor about three times a day in 55 minutes. Homes sit close together, but a car is useful for beaches beyond Hossegor.
Seven beaches are supervised from 11:00 to 19:00 in July and August. Events spread across the year: Fête du Merlu in May, Fête de la Mer in late June, Août of Jazz in mid-August, the chipiron festival in early September and the Quiksilver Pro surf contest in early autumn. Surfers stay regular outside summer, and the Saint-Nicolas festivities arrive in early December.
In summer, yes. Seven of the eight sandy beaches have supervision from 11:00 to 19:00 in July and August. La Pointe is unsupervised and naturist, so avoid it with children.
Capbreton is the bigger of the two, with 9,184 residents against 3,817, and it has the marina and quayside fish sales. Hossegor takes its name from a lake and hosts a World Surf League stage.

An underwater canyon offshore, over 2,100 m deep and about 150 km long. It gives boats a sheltered route into the port because the sea is calmer there in rough weather.
Yes. There is a market near the Pont de la Halle, which links it to the beach. Check market days locally.
