Biscarrosse suits families wanting lake and ocean in one place, with homes spread around the town, the lake and the beach resort. The ocean beach is about 9 km from town, so decide which part you want before choosing.
Biscarrosse is a large Landes commune of about 16,000 residents that fills many times over in summer. It splits into three areas: Biscarrosse-Ville, the commercial centre; Biscarrosse-Lac, with residential streets along the lake and harbours at Maguide and Navarosse; and Biscarrosse-Plage, about 9 km west on the coast. Our homes are spread over roughly 10 km, so they sit around all three. The lake is shallow and comfortable for swimming in summer, the Atlantic coast is beaches, dunes and pine, and the seaplane museum recalls the lake base used by Latécoère and later Air France. Most homes here have a private pool, some have a sauna, and they usually sleep six.
The ocean beach resort about 9 km west of town, with surf shops, a casino and a nightclub.
Seaplane museum on the lake shore, where Air France once flew passengers from the lake to New York and to Natal in Brazil.
The great dune to the north, reachable on one of the cycling routes that start from Biscarrosse.
The lake beside the town, with shallow water that is safe for swimmers and used for sailing and watersports.
Bordeaux-Mérignac is the nearest large airport, about 60 km away and around an hour and a half by car, with no direct public transport. There is no railway station in Biscarrosse: the nearest is Ychoux, about 15 km east, with a bus link. A car is essential, since town, lake and beach are spread out.
The beach resort is open from the first days of spring until mid-autumn, with outdoor terraces, street entertainment and bars open late in summer. The Bisca'Bus shuttle between town and beach runs in summer only. Out of season Biscarrosse-Plage still draws walkers to the seafront, though it is far quieter.
About 9 to 10 km west of Biscarrosse-Ville, linked by the D146 road and by several well-maintained bike paths. In summer the Bisca'Bus shuttle also runs between them.
Yes. The Lac de Biscarrosse et de Parentis has shallow water that is safe for swimmers, with sailing and watersports, and the ocean beaches are a short drive or cycle away.
Yes. There are about 40 km of cycling trails, including a route that reaches as far as the Dune of Pilat to the north, plus bike paths linking town and beach.
The seaplane museum on the lake, the Museum of Traditions, and the 14th and 15th century church of Saint-Martin. The town also hosts a seaplane meeting every two years.
Very. A town of about 16,000 residents swells to somewhere between 100,000 and 150,000 people in summer, so book early for July and August.
