Villas in Novigrad (Istra)
Novigrad suits couples and families who want a small walled town on Istria's west coast rather than a big resort. The medieval wall keeps two round towers, and the larger town of Poreč lies to the south. The trade-off is distance: Novigrad is about 25 km south of the Slovenian border, and Pula airport is far to the south.

About Novigrad (Istra)
Novigrad is a town of fewer than 4,000 people on a small peninsula, about 2 km north of the mouth of the Mirna river. The old centre keeps its medieval layout of narrow, winding streets and small shops, with a town loggia and several Venetian Gothic houses, and the wall still has battlements. The parish church stands on the foundations of an 8th-century basilica and has a pre-Romanesque crypt. Italian is an official language alongside Croatian, and street names honour Italian historical figures by law. Our homes sit within a few kilometres of the centre, mostly two-bedroom places for around four, nearly all air-conditioned, with a minority having a private pool. Do not expect sand: Istria's beaches are rocky.
Is Novigrad (Istra) right for you?
- Best for
- Couples and small families wanting a walkable walled old town
- Not for you if
