About Fažana
Fažana is more a fishing town than a tourist place, and fishing here goes back to Roman times. The sardine is still the most important catch, and a local academy runs salting classes and a fish festival in season. Brijuni lies just offshore, its largest island about 2 km out, and the boat takes around 15 minutes. Most of our homes are small: one-bedroom apartments and modest houses within a few kilometres of the harbour, including the neighbouring village of Valbandon, which has almost as many residents as Fažana itself. Few have a private pool. Hidrobaza, at the village's southern end, is the popular beach, and smaller coves sit around the Punta Christo fortress beyond it. Evenings mean a seafood meal and a walk. The sardine events mostly run in the tourist season, and the rest of the year the village is quieter still.
Is Fažana right for you?
- Best for
- Couples and small families wanting a quiet harbour and Brijuni
- Not for you if
- You want nightlife, because Fažana is still a relatively quiet fishing village.

Fažana villa holidays: questions answered
Is Fažana good for families?
Yes, for families who like boat trips and a calm base. Brijuni, 15 minutes across the water, has a safari park and dinosaur footprints, and Hidrobaza beach is at the southern end of the village. There is little organised entertainment for teenagers.
Do you need a car in Fažana?
Not for the village. Pula is under half an hour by bus and the airport is a 20-minute taxi ride. A car makes Rovinj, Vodnjan and the beaches further down the coast much easier.
Which airport is closest to Fažana?
Pula, about a 20-minute taxi ride away. UK flights to Pula are summer only, with London Gatwick taking about two and a quarter hours. Out of season, most people connect through Zagreb.
Fažana or Pula for a stay?
Fažana is the smaller and quieter choice, a fishing village with the Brijuni boats on the doorstep. Pula has the Roman amphitheatre, the market hall and more restaurants. They are only 8 km apart, so many stay in Fažana and visit Pula.
What is there to do in Fažana?
Take the boat to Brijuni, eat sardines and other fish in the village, swim at Hidrobaza or the coves around the Punta Christo fortress, and drive to Rovinj, half an hour away, or Pula's amphitheatre.
