Kaltenbach suits groups and families who want a house with a garden and a gondola to the Hochzillertal slopes. It is a small village, so do not expect a resort centre.
Kaltenbach is a village of about 1,300 people on the left bank of the Ziller, directly across from Stumm, made up of a main village and farms scattered widely up the hillside. It has a station on the Zillertalbahn. Skiing here means the Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach area, reached by the Skizentrum Hochzillertal cable car and linked with Hochfügen. Our homes lean large, many sleep eight or more, and most have a garden, but none has a pool. In summer Kaltenbach has a bike trail, a pump track, a high ropes course and the Kabooom leisure centre. The Therme in neighbouring Fügen has water slides, saunas and relaxation areas.
The ski area linked with Hochzillertal, with gently sloping runs for families and the Pfaffenbichl winter via ferrata.
The third area in the ski region, with a 5.5 km toboggan run and a summer Adventure Mountain for families.
A thermal spa with water slides, saunas and relaxation areas, in the neighbouring village of Fügen.
Stumm, across the Ziller, has a swimming pool; Aschau has the Aufenfeld adventure park with an indoor pool and swimming lake.
Innsbruck airport is the closest, about 56 km and 46 minutes by car, or around an hour and twenty by bus and train via Jenbach to Kaltenbach-Stumm station. A car helps for the farms on the hillside, though the Zillertalbahn stops in the village.
Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach is scheduled to open in early December and run into April, with Early Bird skiing from 7.30 a.m. at Kaltenbach. Summer suits walkers and cyclists, with a bike trail at Kaltenbach, hiking tours from the valley's villages and the Zillertal cycle route. A summer cable car runs in Fügen-Kaltenbach too.
Yes. Kaltenbach is a base for the Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach area, reached by the Skizentrum Hochzillertal cable car, and it connects with Hochfügen. Together with Spieljoch the region has more than 100 km of slopes.
It works well. Kaltenbach has the Funny-Slope area, Spieljoch has a 5.5 km toboggan run, and the Zwergerl Club kindergarten takes children from three months to seven years. Homes here also tend to have gardens.
There is: Kaltenbach-Stumm station on the Zillertalbahn. From Innsbruck airport you take a bus to the main station, a train to Jenbach and then the Zillertal line, around an hour and twenty in all.
Kaltenbach puts you at the cable car up to Hochzillertal and has the larger homes. Fügen has the Therme, with its water slides and saunas, a short hop away. Pick Kaltenbach for space and the lift, Fügen for the spa.
Kaltenbach has a bike trail, the Hochzillertal pump track, a high ropes course and the Kabooom leisure centre, which has Tyrol's largest air park. The Zillertal cycle route runs through the valley.
