About Moraira
Moraira is a former fishing village on the Costa Blanca with about 10,000 residents, rising to around 36,000 in summer. Unlike Benidorm it has avoided high-rise development, and the Cap d'Or hillside borders it to the north. Our homes lie within a few kilometres of the village, most with a private pool, and many sleep six or more. The Castell de Moraira stands beside L'Ampolla, the most urban beach, with the Platgetes next to it, while El Portet is a sandy bay for swimming and Cala de l'Andragó is a rocky cove for snorkelling. Cooking centres on seafood and rice dishes such as arròs a banda, and a craft market on Avinguda de la Paz is listed as running from 6pm daily. With the summer population more than three times the resident one, the village is much quieter out of season.

Getting to Moraira
Alicante is the usual airport for UK visitors. Moraira is about 80 km north of Alicante city, and the drive to Teulada just inland takes roughly an hour. Valencia lies about 100 km to the north. The tram stops in Teulada, not Moraira, so most visitors hire a car, though taxis are available.
When to go to Moraira
The population climbs from about 10,000 to 36,000 in summer, so July and August bring the crowds. Lifeguards and boat hire at the beaches are mainly summer services. The Moraira Santa Eulalia regatta is held at the end of September, the district open-sea yacht championship takes place at Easter, and a Friday morning market sells produce and general goods.

Moraira villa holidays: questions answered
What are the beaches like in Moraira and El Portet?
Moraira has three sandy beaches popular with families, plus rocky coves. L'Ampolla by the castle is the most urban and busiest, El Portet suits swimming and kayaking, and Cala de l'Andragó is a rocky cove for snorkelling.
Is there a market in Moraira?
Yes, a Friday morning market sells produce and general goods, and a craft market on Avinguda de la Paz is listed daily from 6pm to midnight. Teulada, just inland, holds a Wednesday market and a Sunday second-hand market.
Moraira or Benidorm?
Moraira, if you want low-rise. Unlike Benidorm it has avoided high-rise development, and steps have been taken to protect its native pine groves. It has about 10,000 residents, though that grows to around 36,000 in summer.
Is Moraira busy in August?
Yes. The population rises from about 10,000 to 36,000 in summer, so beaches such as L'Ampolla and El Portet are at their busiest. Out of season the village is far quieter, and beach services such as lifeguards are mainly a summer arrangement.
What is there to see in Moraira?
The Castell de Moraira, completed in 1742 and damaged by the British fleet in 1801, stands in the centre. A footpath from El Portet beach leads up to the 16th-century Cap d'Or watchtower.
