Montignoso runs from the Apuan Alps down to the coast beside Massa, and suits walkers and couples wanting hills and sea. Homes are mostly small, and you should not expect a private pool.
Montignoso sits in a valley crossed by the Pannosa river, between Massa and Versilia, and stretches from the upper slopes of Monte Carchio down to the sea. It is part of the Apuan Alps Regional Park, with former marble quarries on Monte Carchio and chestnut and fir woods around it. Its hamlets spread from the seaside up into the mountains, and Cinquale is one of them. The homes are mostly small, sleeping around four, and most have a garden, but private pools are not a feature. The centre is a few kilometres from the beach.
