About Ostuni
Ostuni is a town of about 30,000 people on a hilltop at around 207 metres, with a walled old town whose summit is 229 metres. The whitewashed houses and alleys earn it the name White Town, and a late 15th-century cathedral stands at the top. Beyond lies countryside of olive groves and fortified farms called masserie. The homes are out in that countryside, spread over about 7 km; most have a pool, nearly all have air conditioning, and many are small, with one bedroom. The coast is under 10 km away, with Marina di Ostuni, Villanova and Torre Canne.

Ostuni villa holidays: questions answered
Is Ostuni near the beach?
Yes. The coast is under 10 km away, with Marina di Ostuni, the marina of Villanova and Torre Canne, a bathing and thermal resort that is a favourite with locals. You will need a car.
Why is Ostuni called the White City?
Because the old town's walls and houses are painted white. It sits on a hilltop of about 229 metres, still enclosed by ancient walls, with whitewashed alleys and eight surviving Aragonese towers.
Which airport is nearest Ostuni?
Brindisi, under 40 km away, about 30 minutes by car. Bari is the other option: the city is about an hour by car on the 80 km freeway, or 50 minutes by train from Ostuni station.
Is Ostuni busy in August?
Yes. The town grows from about 30,000 residents in winter to around 200,000 in summer, so August is the busiest month in the old town and on the nearby coast.
Is Ostuni part of the Itria Valley?
It is. Ostuni is among the comuni that make up the Itria Valley, together with Alberobello, Carovigno and Castellana Grotte. Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, is the valley's best-known stop.
