Isola Rossa suits beach holidays in northern Sardinia, with a sandy beach beside the village and a harbour under a Spanish tower. Homes are small, and many have a private pool. Expect a long drive from either airport.
Isola Rossa is a seaside village in northern Sardinia with a modern harbour overlooked by a Spanish tower from the late sixteenth century. It belongs to the municipality of Trinità d'Agultu e Vignola, whose main village stands 350 metres up and about 6 km away. La Marinedda beach joins the village beach, with pale white sand running gently into shallow water and dunes covered in scrub behind. Our homes are tightly grouped here and mostly small, typically one bedroom and sleeping four, though some are larger. The beach has hotels, bars and restaurants, and the water suits snorkelling and diving.
The wide beach beside the village, with dunes behind it, deckchairs on part of it and a sailing school.
A cove of fine golden sand framed by pink rocks, one of several coves along this stretch.
A cove of light golden sand and smooth pebbles, little visited even in summer, about 20 minutes on foot from a parking area.
A granite coast of Mediterranean scrub broken up by small coves, along the same coast.
The main village of the municipality, about 6 km away, standing 350 metres up above the coast.
Olbia and Alghero airports are both roughly an hour and a half by car, about 1h26 and 1h27. A hire car makes sense, as the coves are spread along the shore and the airport bus to Trinità d'Agultu runs once a day.
La Marinedda is popular with windsurfers and hosts international windsurfing competitions every August. Gallura, the wider area, has hot summers and generally mild winters. Hotels, bars and restaurants serve the beach, but check opening times before an off-season visit, and note that only part of the sand has deckchairs and umbrellas.
Yes. La Marinedda has pale white sand that slopes gently into shallow water, with dunes behind it, between the cliffs of Isola Rossa and Punta Li Canneddi. Part of it has deckchairs and umbrellas.
Yes. The Marinedda beach is popular with windsurfers and hosts international windsurfing competitions every August. Pick the beach day with that in mind.
Yes. The seas around the village are a good spot for snorkelling and diving, and the beach has water-sports services and a sailing school for those who want lessons.
About 1h26 by car from Olbia airport and about 1h27 from Alghero airport. A bus runs from Olbia airport to Trinità d'Agultu, but a car is easier for the final stretch.
Not quite. The cove between Costa Paradiso and Isola Rossa is reached by sea or on foot, about 20 minutes from a parking area off the SP 90, and has golden sand mixed with smooth pebbles.
