Villas in Florence
Florence suits visitors who want to walk to the Duomo, the Uffizi and the Ponte Vecchio from a small city home sleeping around four. A few homes have a pool, and some lie in the hills outside the city. The old centre is closed to most cars, and street noise is part of the deal.

About Florence
Most of the homes are small, with a median of one bedroom, and sit in and around the historic centre, so you walk to the Duomo, the Baptistery, the Uffizi and the Ponte Vecchio. A minority are spread out into the hills around the city, up to roughly nine kilometres away, and only a few homes have a pool. Impruneta, a town on the outskirts, is known for its terracotta and holds the Fiera di San Luca each October. Across the Arno is the Oltrarno, home to artisans, and the Rampe di San Niccolò stairs climb from the river to Piazzale Michelangelo for the view. Most homes have air conditioning. Note that the Uffizi closes on Mondays.

Getting to Florence
Pisa international airport is about an hour from Florence's Santa Maria Novella station by train or bus, though some trains change at Pisa Centrale. Florence's own Peretola airport has a shuttle bus to the station about every half hour. You do not need a car in the centre, which is a restricted traffic zone with camera fines.
When to go to Florence
Florence's biggest dates repeat each year. The Scoppio del Carro takes place in front of the Duomo on Easter Sunday, and on 24 June the city celebrates San Giovanni with the Calcio Storico final in Piazza Santa Croce and fireworks usually set off from Piazzale Michelangelo. Summer brings music festivals. Off-season waits at the Accademia can be under an hour, and the Uffizi is closed on Mondays.

per nightFlorence villa holidays: questions answered
Do you need a car in Florence?
Not for the city. Driving in the historic centre is prohibited except for permit holders, with camera enforcement and fines that can arrive a year later. A car only helps if your home is in the hills.
Are there Florence holiday homes with a pool?
Only a few. Most homes are small city places for around four people, and a minority sit in the hills up to roughly nine kilometres out, where a car helps for getting into the centre.
How do you get from Pisa airport to Florence?
By train or bus to Santa Maria Novella, about an hour from the airport. Some trains need a change at Pisa Centrale, so check the connection before booking.
Is Florence worth visiting in October?
It can be, especially for the Fiera di San Luca at nearby Impruneta, which centres on the feast day of 18 October and runs for more than a week with markets and food stands. The Uffizi still closes on Mondays.
Can you do Pisa or Siena as a day trip from Florence?
Yes, both are listed day trips from the city, along with Lucca, San Gimignano, Arezzo and Chianti. The SITA bus station for Siena is just west of Santa Maria Novella station.
