About Kissamos Kriti
Kissamos, also called Kastelli after its Venetian castle, is a harbour town for fishing boats in western Crete, with a regular ferry from the Peloponnese via Kythira. The town museum occupies a former Venetian governor's palace and shows Roman mosaics from the ancient city of Cisamus. Homes are grouped around the town and its surroundings. Most have a private pool, a garden and air conditioning, and they are large: the typical home sleeps seven, and many sleep eight or more. Pick the home by its distance from the town centre, since they are spread over several kilometres. Falasarna's long sandy beaches lie at the west end of Crete, and the Gramvousa peninsula is part of the same municipal unit.
Is Kissamos Kriti right for you?
- Best for

- Not for you if
- You want a self-contained resort, because Kissamos is a working town and the beaches are drives away.

When to go to Kissamos Kriti
The beaches are the summer draw, and Balos is remote enough that you should check conditions and boat-trip timetables before an off-season visit. The ferry via Kythira also runs to a timetable worth checking ahead. Nearly all homes have air conditioning, which helps in the hottest weeks, and the pool will be the centre of the stay.
