Villas in Adele
Adele suits groups who want a villa with a pool just east of Rethymno, a few kilometres from its old town and Venetian harbour. Most homes here sleep six or more and nearly all have air conditioning. Inland it is farmland behind a long hotel-lined beach, not a village to stroll round, so you will drive for most things.

About Adele
Adele is a village community a few kilometres east of Rethymno and the centre of the municipality's Arkadi district. Its coast is part of a long, north-facing sand and gravel beach, about 16 km in total, on the Cretan Sea. Hotels line the beach, with a road of restaurants and shops behind it. Inland the land is farmed, and the homes are scattered across it rather than gathered in one spot, so think of the address as around Adele. Most have a private pool and a garden, and many sleep eight or more. For an evening out, Rethymno is the nearest town. Its old town keeps arched doorways, stone staircases, narrow streets and a small Venetian harbour, below the Fortezza, one of the best-preserved castles on Crete. Rethymno has about 36,000 people and a University of Crete campus.

Adele villa holidays: questions answered
Is Adele a village with its own centre?
Not really. Adele is a village community a few kilometres east of Rethymno, and its coast is a hotel-lined beach with a road of restaurants and shops behind. For old streets and a harbour in the evening, Rethymno is close.
Is the beach at Adele sand or pebble?
Both. It is a long sand and gravel beach, about 16 km in total, facing north to the Cretan Sea. Hotels line it, with restaurants and shops on the road behind.
Can you visit Arkadi Monastery from Adele?
Yes. Adele is the centre of the Arkadi district of Rethymno municipality, and the monastery opens from 09:00 to 20:00 between June and August, with shorter hours in other months. General admission is 4 euros.
Should I stay in Adele or Rethymno town?
Choose Adele for a private pool and garden and accept the driving. Choose Rethymno if you want to walk to the old town and harbour in the evening. Adele is only a few kilometres east, so you can visit the other easily.
Are the villas in Adele big enough for groups?
Many are. A large share of the homes here sleep eight or more, most have a private pool and a garden, and nearly all have air conditioning. Small couples' places exist but are the minority.
