About Eckental
Eckental is not one town but 17 villages, merged in 1972 around the old market town of Eschenau and named after the small Eckenbach stream. It lies in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district of Middle Franconia, about 16 km north-east of Nuremberg and 14 km east of Erlangen. The oldest church is St Bartholomäus in Eschenau, first built in the early 14th century and rebuilt in the mid-15th after a fire. Brand, Eschenau and Eckenhaid each keep a manor house from the 17th or 18th century. The homes sit together in one spot, and evenings are local and quiet.
