Oberstdorf is an Allgäu town at 815 metres, beneath the Nebelhorn and Fellhorn, and suits walkers and skiers who want a proper town base. Homes are grouped in the town itself, and Memmingen airport is about an hour away by car.
Oberstdorf is a town of around 9,000 residents in the Oberallgäu, on a municipal area of about 230 square kilometres. The Nebelhorn cable car climbs to 2,224 metres, where a barrier-free summit restaurant, a barrier-free walkway at the top and a sledge run from the Seealpe station serve both winter and summer visitors. The Fellhorn reaches 2,038 metres. The Schattenberg ski jump stages the first leg of the Four Hills Tournament each December, and the Heini-Klopfer ski-flying hill, one of the largest in the world, has a diagonal lift for visitors. Valleys such as the Stillach, Trettach and the long Rappenalptal run into the high mountains. Homes are gathered in the town, mostly for two to four people, nearly all with a garden and some with a sauna.
