Zadar suits couples and families who want a walkable Adriatic city with a Roman forum, a free Sea Organ and island ferries nearby. Summers are hot, and our homes are spread across the wider area rather than sitting in the old town. Most sleep around four, and nearly all have air conditioning.
Zadar's old town sits on a promontory that was once cut off from the mainland by a deep moat, now filled in, facing the islands of Ugljan and Pašman across the narrow Zadar Strait. It has the largest Roman forum on the eastern Adriatic, founded under Augustus, and the round 9th-century church of St Donatus. The seafront Sea Organ, which makes music from wave motion through 35 pipes, is free and best at sunset. Our homes are scattered over a wide area around the city, so check each position. Beaches near the centre include Kolovare, Borik with its hotel complex, and family-oriented Vitrenjak. About a quarter of the homes have a pool. Some bars, such as Mango, open only in summer, and flights thin out in autumn and winter.

A national park of more than 80 islands, reached by chartering or renting a boat.
Zadar Airport is at Zemunik Donji, about 8 km from the centre, with seasonal flights from London Stansted with Ryanair and Gatwick with easyJet. Airport buses run to meet arriving flights. Buses to Zagreb take about three and a half hours. A car helps for homes outside the centre.
July and August are the hottest months, with highs of roughly 28 to 30 degrees and a sea of about 25, and swimming is possible from May to October. May and June are best for sailing winds. July is the driest month, October and November the wettest. Autumn and winter bring fewer flights.
