About Umag/Savudrija
Savudrija is a small fishing place on the westernmost cape of Istria, and the first resort you reach when entering the Croatian part of the peninsula. Its lighthouse, built in 1818 and 36 metres tall, is the oldest on the Adriatic coast, and fishing boats here are stored raised on wooden supports. Umag, the main town nearby, has old-town streets and squares and a tennis stadium at Stella Maris. Our homes are in a tight group, more than half with a private pool, nearly all with a garden and all with air conditioning. Many sleep around four. Bike trails pass Roman-era remains.
Is Umag/Savudrija right for you?
- Best for
- Couples and small families wanting a pool and a quiet cape
- Not for you if
- You want a lively nightlife resort or a large home for a big group.

Getting to Umag/Savudrija

When to go to Umag/Savudrija
Summer is the beach season, and every home here has air conditioning. Cooler months suit cycling past the Roman-era remains and walking Umag's old-town streets. At Savudrija the fishing boats are kept raised high on wooden supports, which you can see in any month. Check opening times for restaurants and the lighthouse before an off-season visit.

Can you stay at the Savudrija lighthouse?
Yes. The lighthouse, built in 1818 and 36 metres tall, offers accommodation as well as sightseeing. It is described as the oldest lighthouse on the Adriatic coast.
Is Umag good for tennis?
Yes. Umag has some 100 tennis courts and a tennis stadium at Stella Maris, which makes it a draw for anyone planning to play.
Umag or Buje?
Umag is on the coast, while Buje is a hill town about 13 km inland among vineyards. Pick Umag for sea access and Buje for countryside.
