Schladming suits skiers who want the four-mountain Planai, Hochwurzen, Hauser Kaibling and Reiteralm area, reached by train from Salzburg. No home here has a private pool, and lifts are not at every door.
Schladming is a town of around 6,700 people at 745 metres, a former mining town first mentioned in 1180, now best known for Planai, where World Cup races have been held since 1973. The small old town can be explored on foot, and several bars are open in the centre in winter. It sits at the foot of the 4-Mountain Ski Area, which links Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm. Our homes are grouped tightly in and around the town, many for around six people, and about half have a sauna. In summer the same mountains serve hikers, climbers and toboggan runs, and the town has an outdoor swimming complex. Out of season, check which lifts and attractions are open before you arrive.

One of the four linked mountains, with a piste lit each evening, Monday to Saturday, and night tobogganing on selected days.
68 km from Schladming by road to the airport, and about 1 hour 40 minutes by train.
Salzburg airport is 68 km away, about an hour by car, and trains from Salzburg take about 1 hour 40 minutes. Graz, Munich and Innsbruck are all roughly 175 to 180 km away. There is a year-round bus on the Planai and surrounding mountains, but a car makes day trips easier.
The ski season runs from late November to early April, and the lit piste on Hochwurzen gives an evening option Monday to Saturday. The 4-Mountain area has 123 km of slopes, and the wider Schladming-Dachstein region has 222 km. In summer the lifts take walkers and climbers up, with toboggan runs and the outdoor swimming complex for rest days.
Yes, to a point: there are 430 km of cross-country trails in the region, night tobogganing on Hochwurzen on selected days, and the Dachstein glacier attractions, including a suspension bridge and an Ice Palace.
Yes. Trains from Salzburg take about 1 hour 40 minutes, and Salzburg airport is 68 km away. That makes a car-free arrival realistic, though the homes sit across the town and a bus or taxi helps.
Yes. Piste 33 on the Hochwurzen is groomed and lit each evening, Monday to Saturday, until 11 pm in the season. Night tobogganing also runs on selected days.
The 4-Mountain Ski Area links Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm with 123 km of slopes. The wider Schladming-Dachstein region adds up to 222 km and 99 lifts.
