About Rauris
Rauris is a market town at 950 metres on the Rauriser Ache, at the foot of the Sonnblick group in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Its municipal area is the largest in Salzburg state, and the valley runs about 30 km up to Kolm Saigurn, where old miners' houses and tunnels survive from the gold-mining days. The Hochalm ski area is within walking distance of the centre. Our homes cluster in under a kilometre, mid-sized and mostly with a pool and sauna. Gold history shows in a miners' trail and panning sites, and a falconer flies eagles and owls at the Hochalm. Winter evenings can include the floodlit toboggan run, lit twice a week.

Rauris villa holidays: questions answered
Is Rauris good for a ski holiday?
Yes, for families and returning skiers wanting a compact area. The Rauriser Hochalmbahnen run from 950 to 2,175 metres with about 30 km of pistes, and ski touring starts higher up the valley.
Can you pan for gold in Rauris?
Yes. There are gold-panning sites in the valley, linked to a mining history that peaked in the 15th and 16th centuries and a miners' trail with old tunnels.
Do homes in Rauris have private pools?
Most do, and most also have a sauna. Check each home's own listing for the details before you book.
Can you see vultures around Rauris?
Yes, with luck. Bearded vultures have been reintroduced in the Krumltal, known as the valley of the vultures, an easy hike with about 400 metres of ascent. The Hochalm also has falconry flight shows.
How do you reach Rauris by train?
Get off at Taxenbach, the nearest station on the Bischofshofen to Wörgl line, or at Zell am See for express trains. Bus 640 then runs up the valley, though a car is simpler.
