Savognin suits ski and walking stays in the Surses valley, with a 73.5 km ski area reached by gondola from the village. It is a village of about 1,000 people, and Zurich airport is around two hours away by road.
Savognin lies in a wide basin in the lower Surses valley in Graubünden, where Surmiran, a Romansh variety, is the official language. Highway 3 from Chur to the Engadin crosses the Julier Pass, a route travelled since at least Roman times. The painter Giovanni Segantini lived here from 1886 to 1894. Two ten-person gondolas run from the village via Tigignas to Somtgant, on slopes of Piz Martegnas and Val Nandro, in a ski area of 12 lifts. There are also 52.5 km of cross-country trails and four sledging runs. In summer and autumn the valley is walking and biking country, inside Parc Ela. Our homes sit in and around the village, mostly houses and flats for around five. Few have a pool, and some have a fireplace.
A 2,681 m peak above the village and part of the ski area; an aerial tramway is the easiest way up.

Switzerland's largest nature park, which surrounds the Savognin area, with moorland and Europe's only triple watershed.
Zurich airport is about two hours by road. By train allow about three hours 40 minutes via Zurich HB, Chur and Tiefencastel. Homes are spread around the village, so a car is easier for getting to the gondola and trailheads.
The last published ski dates ran from 13 December 2025 to 6 April 2026, with lifts open 08:30 to 16:00. Cross-country trails and sledging share that winter. Summer and autumn suit walking and biking, and in autumn the Val Surses visitor card makes cable cars and mountain railways free. The Senda Segantini walking holiday is offered for June to September 2027.
Yes. In winter there is the La Nars children's ski area and the Somtgant Snow Park, and in autumn a kids-only wildlife tour uses binoculars and a telescope with a hiking guide.
