Bergün sits on the Albula railway, with a sledging run of about 6 km down from Preda and trains looping through spiral tunnels. Homes are mid-sized with no pools, and Zurich Airport is a long journey away.
Bergün is a stop on the Rhaetian Railway's Albula line in Graubünden, part of a route inscribed by UNESCO in 2008 with the Bernina line. Above the village the track climbs 417 metres to Preda over only 6.5 km as the crow flies, so the line is stretched by about 12 km of spiral tunnels, curved tunnels and viaducts, and crosses over itself twice. Preda, at 1,789 metres, is the highest stop. In winter, a sledging run of about 6 km leads back from Preda to Bergün, with the train taking you up, and a second run from Darlux is about 4.5 km. Our homes sit close together, mostly with two bedrooms, sleeping around five, and about half have a garden. None has a pool.

The western end of the Albula line, at 697 metres.
The eastern end of the Albula line, at 1,774 metres.
Zurich Airport is about 2 hours 10 minutes from Bergün by road, or around 3 hours 30 minutes by train with changes at Zürich HB and Chur. Bergün is on the Rhaetian Railway, which also takes you up to Preda for sledging, so a car is optional.
Sledging means winter, and snow conditions decide whether the runs are open, so check before planning a day around them. The railway between Bergün and Preda is a working line, so the spiral tunnels and viaducts can be ridden in any season. Look at timetables before you set out.
