About Obersaxen Affeier
Affeier is one of the settlements on the Obersaxen plateau, at roughly 1,300 metres, on a sun terrace some 12 km long. Obersaxen is a Walser community, a pocket of German speech in the Romansh Surselva, and its settlements are scattered around the central village of Meierhof. Because deep gorges made church trips hard, 15 Baroque chapels were built in outlying hamlets. Affeier has a village grocery. Our homes are small, mostly for about five, with no pools and few gardens. In winter the skiing is described as sizable but little-known, near Flims-Laax, with fewer crowds. In summer there are hiking and mountain-bike trails, and the former iron ore mine in the Platenga ravine runs guided tours.
