Sedrun suits walkers and skiers who want a Romansh-speaking village below the Oberalp Pass, on the same ski area as Andermatt. Getting here takes time, with Zurich Airport a little under two hours away by car.
Sedrun is the main village of Tujetsch, the westernmost municipality of Graubünden, in the Surselva region and linked to Andermatt by the Oberalp Pass. Only about 1,200 people live in the municipality, and the local Romansh differs markedly from standard Sursilvan. Homes sleep around four to six, mostly with two bedrooms, some with a garden and a few with a fireplace, and none has a pool. They sit together around Sedrun. In summer the walk to Lake Toma starts from the Oberalp Pass, and the Senda Sursilvana hiking route passes through Rueras. Winter brings skiing, the Valtgeva snow park and a natural ice rink in the village.

Zurich Airport is a little under two hours by car, about 88 miles, or around five hours by train via Zurich and Andermatt. Trains also serve Oberalppass, the start of the Lake Toma walk. A car is the easiest way to reach the ski lifts and the hamlets.
Winter suits skiing on SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun, ski touring on Piz Badus and the Valtgeva snow park, with Disentis reaching almost 3,000 m. For Lake Toma, hiking is possible from mid-June, though snowfields can linger until early July. The village also has the Bogn Sedrun pool and spa, an archery park and the La Truaisch museum.
Yes, on SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun. The area combines three ski resorts, with Sedrun and the Oberalp on one side and Gemsstock and Nätschen-Gütsch on the Andermatt side. The ACE Snowpark at Gütsch is aimed at freestylers.
Start at the Oberalp Pass, reached by train or by car from Sedrun, and follow the 4.4 km route out and back in about 2 hours. The lake lies at 2,345 m and is the source of the Rhine. Hiking is possible from mid-June.
Romansh is the most common language in the Tujetsch municipality, spoken by about two thirds of residents in 2000, followed by German. The local variety differs markedly from standard Sursilvan and is sometimes counted as a separate dialect, Tuatschin.
There is a learning area, Valtgeva, with easy slopes, and Disentis has one called Sax. Both are clearly arranged. The wider ski area is bigger, so more confident skiers have room to move on.
About 88 miles by road, a little under two hours, or around five hours by train. That is a long haul at the end of a trip.
