About Alcúdia
Alcúdia is a municipality in the north of Mallorca, on the east coast, with an old town inside a medieval wall. The wall dates to the 14th century and you can climb up and walk most of its circuit. Roman Pollentia lies just outside, with a small theatre. The homes are spread over a few kilometres around the town rather than packed into one block. Many sleep around six and have a garden, and roughly half have a private pool. The beach runs about 14 km to Ca'n Picafort, past Platja de Muro, home of the s'Albufera wetland. The old town holds a market on Sundays and Tuesdays all year, which gives the town some life outside summer.
Is Alcúdia right for you?
- Best for
- Families wanting a pool, a long beach and a walled old town
- Not for you if

The old town market runs on Sundays and Tuesdays all year. Early July brings the nine-day festival of St. Jaume, and the jazz festival starts at the end of August and runs for a month, so late summer has the most going on. Alcúdia villa holidays: questions answered
What is Alcúdia good for with children?
The beach is the main draw. About 14 km of sand runs from Alcúdia to Ca'n Picafort, and roughly half of the villas here have a private pool. The trade-off is that most hotels sit along the same bay at Port d'Alcúdia.
Is the old town of Alcúdia worth visiting?
Yes, mainly for the wall. The 14th-century wall surrounds the old town and most of its circuit can be walked, and the small Roman theatre of Pollentia is just outside. The Sunday and Tuesday market is held here all year.
Is Alcúdia the same as Port d'Alcúdia?
No. Alcúdia is the walled old town, while Port d'Alcúdia is the neighbouring resort where most hotels are, beside the large beach. Homes listed under Alcúdia sit a few kilometres around the town, so check the map before booking.
Is there anywhere for wildlife near Alcúdia?
Yes, s'Albufera. This 1,708 hectare nature preserve holds the largest wetland in the Balearic Islands, formed from an old lagoon, and it lies beside Platja de Muro next to the town. It is popular with birdwatchers.
What events happen in Alcúdia in summer?
The main ones are the nine-day Festival of St. Jaume in early July, which includes a Night of the Romans and ends with fireworks, and the Alcúdia Jazz Festival, which starts at the end of August and runs for a month.
