Mojácar, Garrucha and Turre (north-east)
Mojácar is two places: the whitewashed hilltop pueblo, with steep lanes and views to the sea, and Mojácar Playa, a long strip of beaches, bars and restaurants below it. Garrucha, just north, is a working fishing port known for its red prawns. Turre and Los Gallardos are quieter inland options. Almería airport is around 50 minutes to an hour away.
Best for: Couples and families who want beaches plus a characterful village
Not for you if: You want a big choice of villas: there are only a handful here, so book early for summer.
