About Domaso
Domaso is a small comune on the western shore of Lake Como, about 80 km north of Milan and 40 km north-east of Como, with around 1,450 people over six square kilometres. Its neighbours are Gravedona, Colico, Vercana, Livo and Peglio. The upper lake is ideal for kitesurfing and windsurfing, and Domaso's marina is among the best places for sailing. The homes are bunched tightly in and around the village rather than strung out along the shore. Most are two-bedroom flats and houses for around four, with few big ones. The church of Saint Bartholomew was rebuilt between 1634 and 1640, and the village holds the Fiera di San Carlo, an agricultural fair. Trains on the lake run separate winter and summer timetables, and the Splügen pass shuts from late autumn to early spring.

Domaso villa holidays: questions answered
Is Domaso good for windsurfing?
Yes, the upper lake is ideal for windsurfing and kitesurfing and Domaso's marina is among the best places for sailing. Lake Como has two daily breezes: the Breva from the south in the afternoon and the Tivano from the north in the morning.
Does Domaso have a railway station?
No. The railway runs only along the eastern shore, with stations between Lecco and Colico, including Varenna. For Domaso you take the train to Colico and then a local bus, or drive or take a boat.
Is Domaso or Gravedona better for a stay?
Domaso is small, with around 1,450 residents. Gravedona next door has the Romanesque baptistery of Santa Maria del Tiglio and the four-towered Palazzo del Pero. Both are worth a stop, with no more than two hours needed for each.
Can you tour Lake Como by boat from Domaso?
It works, but pace it. Boats and hydrofoils run the length of the lake between Colico and Como, stopping at most towns, and it is best not to expect to see more than two or three villages in a day.
Do the homes in Domaso have pools?
A minority do. Most are small flats and houses for around four with two bedrooms, and air conditioning is not common. A few larger houses exist, but they are rare.
