About Dervio
Dervio sits at the mouth of the Varrone valley on a cone-shaped peninsula, about 25 km north-west of Lecco and 70 km north of Milan. The centre is small, with a lakeside promenade, green spaces and several small beaches rather than one big one. High on a cliff above the town stands Orezia Castle, built in the late Middle Ages to block the road into the Valvarrone and first mentioned in 1039. The Sentiero del Viandante walking route can be picked up from the town, and the hamlet of Corenno Plinio, part of Dervio, keeps a medieval feel, with the church of San Tommaso di Canterbury beside its 14th century walled castle. Homes are grouped close to the town, a good share of them with a private pool, and many sleep six or more.
