La Villa, also called Stern, is an Alta Badia village in the Dolomiti Superski area, with the Gran Risa piste coming down close to it. Our homes are spread over the wider area rather than gathered in the village, so check each one's position against the lifts before you book.
La Villa is a frazione of Badia in Val Badia, and Stern and the Ladin name La Ila are the same place. Most people in the municipality speak Ladin as their first language. Piz La Ila, at 2,077 metres, is where the Gran Risa starts, a run counted among the most technical on the World Cup circuit, and a men's giant slalom is traditionally held there each December. Alta Badia has no fewer than 130 kilometres of slopes, and the 40 kilometre Sellaronda loop can be joined from Corvara. In summer the Maratona dles Dolomites cycle race starts in the village every year. Homes are mostly sized for four to six people, nearly all have a garden and many have a sauna, but they sit spread across the area, so a few are well out of the village.
One of the four Sellaronda starting points, with Val Gardena, Arabba and Canazei, for the 40 kilometre loop skied clockwise or anticlockwise.
Piz La Ila at 2,077 metres is the start of the Gran Risa piste, which descends through conifer forest to La Villa.
A small lake at 1,460 metres, one of the sights close to La Villa itself.
The Valparola road turns off at La Villa and climbs to the Falzarego pass, then drops to Cortina d'Ampezzo or towards Alleghe.
Bolzano, Innsbruck and Venice are the airports within reach, with journeys of roughly three hours, four and a quarter hours and four and a half hours respectively. Hire a car or book a transfer; with homes spread over the area, your own transport will save time every day.
Winter is the main season, with skiing across Alta Badia's slopes and a World Cup giant slalom traditionally staged each December on the Gran Risa. In summer the Maratona dles Dolomites cycle race starts in La Ila once a year, so expect roads and beds to fill. Check lift and hut opening dates before travelling in spring or autumn.

Yes, even complete novices can manage it, since the loop is well served by lifts and every run connects. It can be skied either way round from Corvara, Val Gardena, Arabba or Canazei, so from La Villa you first need to reach one of those.
Ladin is the first language of most residents of Badia, the municipality that includes La Villa. Well over nine in ten give it as their first language, a figure for the whole municipality rather than the village alone.
Not all of them. Our homes are spread across the wider area around La Villa, so some are in the village and others are further out. Nearly all have a garden and many have a sauna, so check each listing's position.
