Terranuova Bracciolini suits couples and small families who want a pool and the Balze cliffs, with Florence airport about 45 minutes away. It is a town of around 12,000 people rather than a hill village, and the homes are out in the countryside around it.
Terranuova lies in the Valdarno, about 35 km south-east of Florence and 25 km north-west of Arezzo, at about 156 metres. It was simply Terranuova until 1862, when it took the name of the humanist Poggio Bracciolini, born here in 1380. The homes are scattered through the countryside around the town rather than in the streets. On the slopes of the Pratomagno, erosion has cut the Balze into ravines and pillars, and the hamlet of Piantravigne sits among the eroded faces. The Ascione valley road leaves the centre past vineyards and sheep, a quiet route for cyclists, with detours to Traiana, Cicogna and Campogialli. Nearly every home has a private pool and a garden, many have a fireplace, and most sleep four.

Florence airport is about 45 minutes away by car. Montevarchi-Terranuova station is on the line from Florence and Arezzo, with a bus on into Terranuova, but the homes are spread through the countryside, so plan on hiring a car.
They are eroded cliffs, ravines and pillars on the slopes of the Pratomagno, protected as a nature area running from Reggello to Terranuova. The pillars at Poggitazzi and Piantravigne are the most striking.
Yes, with a change. A bus links the town to Montevarchi-Terranuova station, and trains run from there to Florence. Florence airport is about 45 minutes away by road, which is far quicker.
For gentle rides, yes. The Ascione valley road starts in the town centre and runs through vineyards with little traffic, and short detours reach the hamlets of Traiana, Cicogna and Campogialli.
About 25 km. Arezzo lies south-east of the town, and the drive takes roughly 40 minutes, so it is an easy day trip, and trains also run between Arezzo and Montevarchi-Terranuova station.
