Leonidio is a small town of a few thousand people on the east coast of the Peloponnese, on a fertile plain between the Myrtoan Sea and the Parnon range. Steep mountainsides close it in to the north and south, and the town sits at the foot of red cliffs. The Dafnon river runs through the middle, crossed by three bridges, with the older quarter on one side and newer streets on the other. It has become a well-known rock-climbing destination, with a festival every autumn. The town is the capital of Tsakonia, where an old dialect descended from Doric Greek is still spoken. Our homes are spread across the surrounding area rather than in the town itself, and all have a fireplace.
