Wallgau suits a couple or small family who want cross-country trails, golf and Upper Isar valley walks from a small village. Choice is very small, and the nearest railway station is about 5 km away at Klais, so plan on a car.
Wallgau is a village of about 1,500 people in the Upper Isar valley, with the Wetterstein range to the south-west and the Austrian border a few kilometres off. The Isar here was left almost dry when the Walchensee power station took its water, and some has flowed back into the bed since 1990. The village also has a nine-hole golf course. With Krün and Mittenwald, Wallgau forms the Alpenwelt Karwendel area, with around 150 km of cross-country trails. Homes here sleep up to four.
A deep Alpine lake north along the B11, with summer sailing and windsurfing and the Herzogstand gondola from Walchensee village.
About 2 km south, with the small Barmsee and Geroldsee lakes nearby and Schloss Elmau, host of two G7 summits.
Munich Airport is about 128 km away, roughly an hour and a half by car. The nearest station is Klais, about 5 km off, or take the train to Kochel and bus 328. A car is far simpler.
