Norden is an old seaside town in East Frisia, and Norddeich, a short train ride away, is where the island ferries leave. Norddeich Mole station is the last stop northbound for many long-distance trains, close to the ferry dock but awkward for the town, so Norden and Norddeich stations are handier. There is a seal sanctuary station in Norddeich. Our homes sit around Norden, spread over about three kilometres. Most are small, sleeping around four in two bedrooms, and most have a garden; saunas and pools are rare. Norderney, an hour away by car ferry, has a sandy beach 14 km long on its north side, and the island's eastern half is in the Wadden Sea National Park.
