About Jessern
Jessern is a small lakeside village in Lower Lusatia, part of the Schwielochsee municipality, with the lake on its western and northern sides. Its Lower Sorbian name, Jaserń, means place by the lake. First recorded in 1470, it is laid out as a cul-de-sac village, and today it is mainly a bathing and day-trip spot with a beach on the lake and many cycling and walking trails. The Schwielochsee is the largest lake in the area, but shallow, about 2.8 metres on average. Our homes are scattered around Jessern and the lake shore villages. Evenings are dark and silent; this is a summer place first.

Town about 25 km south-west of Jessern, roughly 25 minutes by car, or just over an hour by bus from neighbouring Goyatz.

Late Romanesque fieldstone church in Zaue, in the same municipality as Jessern, with extensive Baroque fittings inside.
Burg (Spreewald)
About 26 minutes' drive from Jessern, and the 508 bus runs between Burg and neighbouring Goyatz.
Getting to Jessern
The old Spreewaldbahn through neighbouring Goyatz stopped carrying passengers in 1970, so there is no train to Jessern. Lübben is about 25 minutes away by car, while the bus from Goyatz to Lübben takes just over an hour. The B 320 crosses the village's land. Plan on driving.
