Villas in Quiberon
Quiberon suits couples and small families who want a seaside town with Belle-Île a short ferry ride away. Most homes are small apartments and houses for around four, and few have a pool. The catch is access: Quiberon sits at the end of a narrow peninsula, and Nantes airport is almost two hours away by road.

About Quiberon
Quiberon is a town of under 5,000 residents at the southern end of the Quiberon peninsula, joined to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. The northern half of the peninsula belongs to Saint-Pierre-Quiberon. It grew up on sardine fishing and canning in the nineteenth century, when it was France's leading sardine harbour, then turned to tourism and is now known mainly as a summer resort for French visitors. The Grande Plage is the town beach. The Côte Sauvage, the wild coast where the waves beat on the rocks, is the opposite: swimming is banned there because of dangerous waves. Our homes are scattered around the peninsula rather than in the centre alone, so check the map. Small shops in the centre stay open on winter Sunday mornings.

Getting to Quiberon
Nantes is the practical airport, with easyJet from Gatwick and Ryanair from Stansted, about 1 hour 50 minutes by road. Quiberon station has a summer-only train from Auray, with a bus between the two from September to July. A car is the easiest way to reach Carnac and the wider coast.
When to go to Quiberon
Quiberon is mainly a summer resort, so July and August bring the crowds and the summer train from Auray. Outside summer the ferry to Belle-Île still runs and small shops open on winter Sunday mornings, but expect a quiet town. The Côte Sauvage is not for swimming in any season.

Quiberon villa holidays: questions answered
Can you swim at the Côte Sauvage in Quiberon?
No. Swimming is prohibited on the Côte Sauvage because of dangerous waves. Head instead to the Grande Plage in town, the usual spot for sunbathing.
How long is the ferry from Quiberon to Belle-Île?
About 50 minutes to Le Palais, one of the island's two main ports. The ferry runs in winter as well as summer, so a day trip on Belle-Île works out of season too, though it is wise to check the timetable for your dates.
Quiberon or Carnac for a holiday home?
Carnac is about 20 minutes away by road and has five beaches and more than 10,000 standing stones. Quiberon has the Grande Plage, the Côte Sauvage and the ferry to Belle-Île. Choose Quiberon for the island trips, Carnac for the stones.
Can you reach Quiberon by train?
Partly. Take a TGV from Paris to Auray, then a bus to Quiberon. In July and August a summer train also runs between Auray and Quiberon. From Paris the whole trip is nearly five hours.
Do Quiberon holiday homes have pools?
Very few do. Most homes are small apartments and houses sleeping around four, so the sea and the town beach are the swimming options. If a private pool matters, Quiberon has little choice.
