Gordes suits couples and small families who want a home with a pool in the countryside around Gordes, close to Sénanque Abbey. Most homes here list a pool and sleep four to six, but check each listing. Gordes is one of the most visited villages in the Luberon park, and you will drive everywhere.
Gordes is a village of about 1,650 people in the Monts de Vaucluse, facing the northern slope of the Luberon mountain. Its château stands in the middle of the village, partly rebuilt in Renaissance style in 1525, and the Tuesday-morning Provençal market fills the streets around it. Marc Chagall and Jean Deyrolle discovered the village in 1947 and other artists followed; today tourism is a major part of the local economy, with hotels and restaurants to match. The commune is scattered with several hundred bories, dry-stone huts, and the Cistercian abbey of Sénanque lies close by. The homes are in the countryside around the village rather than in the old centre, so evenings mean a short drive in for dinner.

Fly to Marseille, about 53 minutes' drive from Gordes. Without a car, a train from the airport to Cavaillon and a taxi onward takes around an hour and a half. Hire a car: the homes are outside the village.
