Our Hejls homes cluster at Hejlsminde, a small Little Belt resort whose shallow Blue Flag beach of fine sand suits families. Most have three bedrooms and a wood burner. Kolding, Haderslev and Legoland all mean driving, and evenings are quiet.
The homes filed under Hejls are clustered at Hejlsminde, a small resort 2 km southeast of Hejls village, between the lagoon of Hejls Nor and Hejlsminde Bay on the Little Belt. Summer-house areas were built north of it from the 1950s to the 1970s. The beach is fine sand with a sandy bottom and shallow water, with a bathing jetty, a playground and a kiosk. The marina has a restaurant, and a grocery and bakery are within walking distance of the harbour. These are holiday houses of the larger kind: most have three bedrooms and sleep six or so, almost all have a wood burner, a fair number have a sauna, and almost none has a pool. Evenings are quiet. Outside summer this is a small seaside place, so plan days out in Kolding or Haderslev.
A city of about 64,000 at the head of Kolding Fjord, with the 13th-century Koldinghus castle, now a museum; around 16 minutes by car from Hejls.
A town of about 22,000 with a cathedral standing since the mid-13th century, on its own fjord; around 19 minutes by car.
A yellow-brick Moravian Church town founded in 1773 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015.
Opened in 1968 next to the original Lego factory and Billund Airport, roughly 52 minutes by car from Hejls.
Billund Airport is the practical choice, about 60 km or 52 minutes by road from Hejls, with British Airways flying from Heathrow and Norwegian from Gatwick. Groceries are walkable from the harbour, but you need a car for Kolding, Haderslev and Legoland.
Summer is the season for the shallow beach at Hejlsminde, and it is also when Legoland is busiest. Spring and autumn suit a house with a wood burner and sauna, with the lagoon's birdlife and sunsets over Hejls Nor for company. In winter the resort is very quiet, so plan days out in Kolding or Haderslev.
Yes. Hejlsminde Strand is a Blue Flag beach of fine sand with a sandy bottom and shallow water, and it has a bathing jetty, a playground on the beach, toilets and a kiosk. It sits by the marina, 2 km southeast of Hejls village.
About 60 km from Billund Airport, roughly 52 minutes by car. Legoland sits next to the airport, so that is also the drive to the park.
Close enough for a half-day trip: Kolding is about 16 minutes by car. It is a city of about 64,000 with Koldinghus, a 13th-century royal castle now used as a museum.
Hejls, or rather Hejlsminde, gives you a shallow beach and a small harbour, while Haderslev is a town of about 22,000 with a cathedral, 19 minutes away by car. Pick Haderslev if you want a town on your doorstep.
Christiansfeld, founded by the Moravian Church in 1773 and a UNESCO site since 2015, is close by. Kolding's castle, Haderslev's cathedral and the replica Viking ship moored in Hejlsminde harbour make other easy outings.
